James Paton Photographic Competition winner 2011

This photograph was the winning entry to the James Paton Photographic Competition for 2011 run by the Society's Scottish Centre. It was taken in the early afternoon of 30th November 2008 from Ben Gullipen, between Aberfoyle and Callander, overlooking Loch Venachar. Snow showers had fallen on the Highland hills in a northerly airstream on previous days, but winds had fallen light as a slack area of low pressure moved over Scotland. A wisp of stratus can be seen in the photo but there was more to the right (east) of the field of view over Callander. The Glasgow conurbation was dull all day under lifted fog and the temperature at Paisley never rose above freezing. (
