ABSTRACT

Booth Maternity Center's refresher program for nurse-midwives, accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives since 1973, admitted 96 midwives to its program between 1975 and 1980. The program primarily prepares foreign-trained midwives for American certification through supervised clinical experience and a modular learning curriculum. Seventy nine percent of the 86 certified nurse-midwives graduates of this consumer oriented, family-centered program are presently practicing in the United States and abroad. Alternative or additional ways to utilize the unique learning environment at Booth Maternity Center are being considered.
