A consensus development conference was held at the National Institutes of Health on February 6–8, 1984, to discuss issues related to “The Use of Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging in Pregnancy.” NIH consensus development conferences bring together scientists, practicing physicians, other health professionals, and representatives of the public, to provide a scientific assessment of medical technologies and to develop a consensus statement on their safety and efficacy.
