In the November/December 1997 issue of the Journal of Nurse-Midwifery, the World Health Organization (WHO) definition of primary care on page 465 of the article entitled “Population-Based Primary Health Care For Women: An Overview for Midwives” was inadvertently misquoted. It should have read:

“Primary health care is essential care … made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community … through their full participation and at a cost that the community and country can afford.”

The authors regret any misinterpretations this error may have caused and are grateful to Gwen Brumbaugh Keeney, CNM, PhD(c) for bringing it to their attention.
