Postdoctoral conditions need improvement, report indicates

About 52,000 science and engineering postdoctoral students work in the public and private sectors throughout the United States, a doubling in number since 1980.

While these postdocs to a large extent represent the future for science research, a new report by the U.S. National Academies says employment conditions often are less than adequate, and the postdoctoral experience needs broad improvements.
