U.S. foreign aid should place more emphasis on science and technology that can help developing countries, according to Jeffrey Sachs, director of Harvard University s Institute of International Development.

He said science and technology which he labeled the most fundamental drivers of longterm economic growth need to be mobilized on behalf of poor countries. Sachs, who spoke at a September 14 meeting of the Presidents Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in Washington, D.C., added that this mobilization is particularly needed in tropical countries.
