Experts look at future of volcanology



Volcanologists do not need a crystal ball to forecast the future direction of their discipline. They only need to hear the rumblings of Pocopatépetl near Mexico City or see the flames and flows of other volcanoes to remind them of the need to better understand and forecast the behavior of these natural phenomena that are also often natural hazards.

A December 15 briefing at the AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco took on the not-too-distant topic of “Volcanology in 2010.”
