U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy: An update

Abstract

The Oceans Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-256) establishes the 16-member U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, “to undertake a thorough review of U.S. ocean and coastal programs and activities,” and “to make recommendations for a coordinated and comprehensive national ocean policy…” President Bush appointed the Commission on 3 July 2001, with several members from AGU and ASLO among its members.

The Act charges the Commission to present its findings and recommendations in a final report to Congress and the President. The report is due in the spring of 2003, and as directed in PL. 106-256, will cover the following areas
