Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar

Weather radar has been used by meteorologists throughout the world since the 1940s as a valuable remote sensing technology. A significant milestone was reached in the late 1980s when the first of a network of 158 Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) weather radars was installed in central Oklahoma. The WSR-88D system was designed to accommodate change as advances in science and technology matured enough to be integrated economically into the system. The first major technological upgrade, the improved Radar Product Generator, is nearing completion of deployment.
