At a time when many scientists and politicians are calling for substantially increasing the budget for the National Science Foundation (NSF), some influential U.S.senators who are generally supportive of the NSF are insisting on improvements in its method for prioritizing major science projects and in NSF's management and oversight of these projects.
This Congressional concern likely will lead to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) agreeing to prepare a report on this issue.
