On 15 July 2002, Asher PSchick passed away from cancer at his home in Motza Illit. Schick, a pioneer in arid-zone fluvial geomorphology was a professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He began his career when fluvial geomorphology was dominantly a descriptive science, and reliance on geophysical theory and field measurements was a relatively new concept. Schick became a member of AGU (Hydrology) in 1995.
