Reply [to Comment on “Different views of the Grand Canyon” Comment: On science and pseudo-science in national parks by Michael W. Asten]

I appreciate Michael Asten's thoughtful comments. The aim of my Forum article was not to promote censorship, but rather, to point out that Tom Vail's book, Grand Canyon: A Different View, is a text that propounds religiously based pseudo-science about a geological icon. As I wrote in that article, in my opinion, the sale of that book within the park is undermining the work of the National Park interpreters who work so hard to educate the public, and I believe that Asten would agree with that view. However, he raises a difficult issue.
