Bement appointed to Head NSF

Arden L. Bement, Jr., who has served as acting director of the U.S. National Science Foundation since 22 February 2004, was officially appointed as director by President George W Bush on 24 November. As acting director he also had served as director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology within the U.S. Commerce Department. His 6-year appointment to head NSF coincides with his resignation as director of NIST.
