Valle's geysers begin to reappear after landslide

Authors

Abstract

The geysers of the Valley of the Geysers in Kamchatka, Russia, are beginning to reemerge after having become submerged following a 3 June landslide that blocked the Geyser River. The dam of mud and debris began to erode on 7 June after the river's water reached the top. This dam may not erode completely away, and would leave behind a moderately-sized thermal lake. However, the main attractions of the valley—which is a UNESCO World site—are expected to become re-exposed, according to the nonprofit World Wildlife Fund.
