Reducing ship emissions along U.S. coastline

The United States has called for reducing harmful ship emissions by asking the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a United Nations agency, to create a 370-kilometer-wide emissions control area (ECA) around the U.S. coastline, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on 30 March. IMO will begin reviewing the proposal in July, and approval could occur as early as next year.
