Estimated water use in the United States in 2005 was slightly less than the estimated use in 2000 and about 5% less than total withdrawals in the peak year of 1980, despite a 30% population increase during the past 25 years, according to a new report from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), “Estimated use of water in the United States in 2005,” issued on 29 October.
