NSF advisory committee examines realignment plan

Abstract

The U.S. National Science Foundation's (NSF) plan to move the Office of Polar Programs (OPP) back into the Directorate for Geosciences (GEO) was prompted by organizational efficiency, potential synergy between the two, timing, and other factors, NSF director Subra Suresh told members of the Advisory Committee for Geosciences during its 11–12 October meeting. The group, which is a federal advisory committee to NSF, also focused on the search for a permanent associate director for the geosciences directorate, the budget, and workload and infrastructure issues.
