Liason Committee on Paleomagnetic Data Base

Given recent initiatives by the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) and the European Geophysical Society (EGS) for establishment of global and regional paleomagnetic data bases, it is important for the AGU GP Section to consider establishment of such a data base and to have effective input into decisions regarding international data bases. As a first step in this process, a group of 12 researchers in various subdisciplines of paleomagnetism met on Tuesday, December 8, 1987, during the AGU Fall Meeting to discuss whether establishment of a central computerized data base is a worthwhile goal. Participating in this meeting was Herbert Meyers, Chief of Solid Earth Geophysics Division of the National Geophysical Data Center (Boulder, Colo.).
