In January 1986 the Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS) was incorporated as a nonprofit society under the laws of the State of Arizona. The society now has three chapters, in Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson, with a total of more than 200 members. The purposes of the society may be summarized as follows:
- Advancement of the science of hydrology and water resources research, planning, and development;
- Establishment of an open forum for information exchange among professionals concerned with hydrology and water resources;
- Dissemination of ideas and information about the field of hydrology and other water resources professions to the public; and
- Support of the establishment of standards for the practice of hydrology as a profession.
