This book is a gem! It is written in an easy, lucid style, at a popular level, and yet it is filled with the sorts of insights and relationships that any AGU member would find fresh and informative. This is a book containing ideas to talk about over lunch. It also is useful as a primer to quickly learn or review diverse matters starting at the center of the Sun and continuing to the surface of Earth. (There is an appendix of references should one wish more information on any topic.) The most important attribute of this book, however, is that these diverse matters are tied together in a masterful way. With simple declarative sentences and bountiful illustrations, Friedman gives us an inspiring overview of the Sun-Earth system.
