From climatologists analyzing deep-sea sediment cores to tectonophysicists studying changes in Earth's magnetic field, geophysicists can benefit from new data sets from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC). Ten new or updated offerings have been announced this year. The announcement number follows the description.
Data on sediment cores from Deep Sea Drilling Project sites in the Pacific Ocean, scattered through more than 90 volumes, have been gathered in one 447-page report. Site summaries and lithologic logs have been standardized and condensed, and include information on sediment age, rock type and composition, lithologic boundaries, percent carbonate and biogenic silica, bulk density, and porosity (88-MGG-01).
