The unified relationship between solar events and interplanetary disturbances was the primary topic of discussion at this workshop, held March 14–18, 1988, in Colorado Springs. Organized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Environment Laboratory and funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Solar Maximum Mission Principal Investigators, the workshop made use of the results of a preceding workshop with the same focus held in September 1986 [Eos, 67, 1986]. Three topic groups were formed that met either independently or with one of the other groups according to a prearranged plan.
