ASLO Special Symposium on Regional Effects of Acid Deposition on Surface Waters

Of the 10 papers presented in the ASLO special symposium, Regional Effects of Acid Deposition on Surface Waters, seven were regional case studies of lakes (four papers) or streams (three papers). These papers stressed the importance of hydrologic settings and flow paths in regulating pH and the acid neutralizing capacity (ANC). Three papers dealt with special topics: fishery models, paleolimnological reconstructions, and an overview of lake-watershed-airshed interactions. Geographically, data were derived primarily from a triangular section of the eastern and central United States (from Maine to Minnesota and Florida) corresponding to regions 1, 2, and 3 of the National Surface Water Survey.
