First IGBP Topic: Past Global Change

  • Anonymous

The Special Committee for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program set up in October the first IGBP scientific steering committee and instructed it to develop projects to study records of past global change. Hans Oeschger of the University of Berne, Switzerland, was named chairman

The committee's work will encompass the past 150,000 years, to include a full glacial-interglacial cycle. Particular studies will focus on changes during Holocine time, the past 10,000 years, and on changes induced by human activity in the past 1000 years.
