Abstract

The National Science Foundation has chosen 11 universities to be the hosts of Science and Technology Centers. One of these, the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, will emphasize geophysical research.

The announcement of the centers marks the long-awaited beginning of a controversial program that would provide first-year installments on 5-year grants. The size of each award ranges from $900,000 (the amount allocated to the storm prediction center) to $4.1 million.
