Abstract

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has named teams of investigators for 56 instrument and data analysis projects for the Earth Observing System (EOS), a major program to continuously monitor Earth from four polar-orbiting platforms. The first of the satellites is scheduled for deployment from the space shuttle in October 1996.

NASA received 455 proposals for EOS research projects and awarded contracts for three types of experiments: instruments built by investigators that will fly on the polar platforms, experiments using one of the six “research facility instruments” that NASA will build for the platforms, and interdisciplinary analyses of data from one or more of the EOS instruments.
