Fourth International Mars Conference

Abstract

The Fourth International Conference on Mars was held January 10–13 in Tucson, Ariz. The major objectives were to summarize what is thought to be fairly well known about Mars at the beginning of a new era of spacecraft exploration and to focus discussion on areas of continuing uncertainty. A parallel objective was to provide a forum for discussion and stimulation that will facilitate concentration of the observations and analyses of upcoming missions. To this end, the themes of the conference were to summarize those aspects that are known with reasonable confidence, to identify the key points at which interpretations diverge, to discuss the implications of alternate interpretations, and to identify key future measurements.
