Abstract

The earliest beginning of organized efforts to do history in AGU began with an idea that David Stern presented to a number of scientists attending a topical conference held in La Jolla, Calif., in the early 1970s. David's ideas were supported by a number of fellow history enthusiasts, “especially Martin Walt, Jim Heirtzler and James Van Allen who acted as godfathers in helping the Committee on History of Geophysics find a niche in the AGU framework” and win recognition from the AGU Council.
