Abstract

For the past 15 years, Wilfried H. Brutsaert has been Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University, Itahca, N.Y., teaching and conducting research in hydrology and fluid mechanics. He began life in Ghent, Belgium, and received the Engineer's Diploma from the State University of Ghent in 1958, having spent the previous summer investigating evapotranspiration and applied hydrology in Zaire.

My acquaintance with Wilfried began in September 1958, when he arrived at the University of California, Davis, to study for and later receive the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. It is with great satisfaction, personally and professionally, that I have had the opportunity to be a colleague of Brutsaert during the past 3 decades.
