High-risk science

Proposals for low-budget, urgent and exciting scientific research will receive special attention from the National Science Foundation in a program intended to provide quick money for small-scale, groundbreaking projects.

NSF is particularly interested in work on untested ideas or in emerging areas, new approaches to “old” topics, work that crosses NSF program boundaries or that is urgent or likely to catalyze rapid and innovative advances. Scientists who have not had previous support from NSF are encouraged to apply.
