NSF proposal changes

Abstract

The National Science Foundation's Continental Lithosphere Program has issued new guidelines for research proposals. Optional preliminary proposals, limits on length, and a substantiation of educational benefit are now a part of the proposal process. The changes reflect shifts in NSF requirements and, in the case of preliminary proposals, input from the scientific community from a recent workshop. Projects supported by the program are concerned with the origin, structure, composition, and evolution of the continents. The program remains geared toward supporting long-term, multi-institution projects with a single focus and finite duration that by their scope and complexity do not fit easily into the jurisdiction of the Research Grants section of the Earth Sciences Division at NSF.
