Abstract

The CSIRO Centre for Environmental Mechanics (Canberra, Australia), a leader in soil-water hydrology, micrometeorology, and physical ecology since the late 1950s, has announced the resignation of chief John Philip. Replacing him will be John Finnigan, an aeronautical engineer who joined the centre in 1972. Philip will continue his research as the first appointee to the new classification of CSIRO Fellow. The category was recently created to enable eminent scientists to continue in full-time research with remuneration packages parallel to those of senior administrators.
