Committee on seismology meets

Earthquake ground motion was a focus of discussion at the semi-annual meeting of the Committee on Seismology, a standing committee of the National Research Council's Board on Earth Sciences and Resources. At the April 18–19 meeting, held in Washington, D.C., plans were made for a workshop on the U.S. Strong-Motion Program. The workshop will be a joint project of the Committee on Earthquake Engineering and the Committee on Seismology, and will be a first step in implementing a 1987 recommendation of the NRC suggested by a panel chaired by the late Otto Nuttli. That panel's report, “Recommendations for the Strong-Motion Program in the United States,” often referred to as the “Nuttli Report,” made specific recommendations for a national strong-motion program. These recommendations, together with additional topics of recent concern, are possible subjects for the workshop.
