The Planetology Committee has presented Dorothy Koch with the Outstanding Student Paper Award for a presentation given at the Spring Meeting in Montreal, Canada, held in May. Her paper was titled, “A Spreading Drop Model for Generation of the Venus Highlands.” Koch is a doctoral student at Yale University. She is currently studying the effect of lateral viscosity variations on mantle convection, as well as numerical and theoretical solutions for the spreading of a viscous drop below a fluid surface, with applications to plume-related features on Venus.
