A call for involvement in K-12 education

Abstract

Education enhancements at the K-12 levels continue to be urgent for the United States and, indeed, the world community. This is especially true for science and technology education. It is important that the general scientific community become more involved and consider such participation to be a basic part of professional activity.

Professional societies representing the scientific community play an important role in fostering and facilitating participation of this community in K-12 educational initiatives. Partnerships and cooperation among scientific professional societies and public and private sector institutions are essential to achieving a sustained national impact.
