On March 29, the National Science Foundation released its fiscal year 1994 budget request of $3.18 billion—a 16% increase over last year's appropriation. This figure includes an FY 1993 $207 million supplemental appropriation requested by the president to be used for interagency Federal Coordinating Council for Science, Engineering, and Technology (FCCSET) initiatives, which are jointly supported by NSF and other federal agencies. The supplemental appropriation bill accounts for 7.2% of the 16% increase. It has been passed in the House, and the Senate is expected to approve it within days.
