Abstract

On July 30, Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt announced his selection of an interim team to lead the U.S. Geological Survey until a new director is named. Effective August 16, Robert M. Hirsch, who has been a USGS research hydrologist for 17 years, will serve as acting director. Bonnie A. McGregor, assistant chief hydrologist for program, and a marine geologist for 14 years with the USGS, will serve as acting associate director.

“I am pleased that two distinguished scientists with management experience from within the ranks of the USGS have agreed to take on interim leadership of the organization,” Babbitt said.
