Abstract

The U.S. Geological Survey, the largest civilian mapping agency, has just joined hands with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the largest federal land management agency, in an agreement to expand coordination of their mapping efforts and develop cartographic technology of mutual benefit.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the agencies provides a mechanism to produce and exchange conventional maps, digital cartographic data, and remotely sensed data. The new agreement will also help enforce national standards in map making, which will make the data more available and useful to a wider audience.
