The Suva-based South Pacific Geoscience Commission is undertaking a seabed mapping project covering the exclusive economic zones of Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Tuvalu.

The survey is being carried out by the French oceanographic ship L'Atlanta. When the project is completed next year, the commission will have accurate maps of the seafloor covering an area of nearly 750,000 km2 for the first time.
