The recent spacewalk repair mission of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) appears to have been a success, but NASA will have to wait several months for the first fully corrected images to be returned before it can assess how well the optics work.
The HST was designed to surpass the capabilities of ground-based optical telescopes for many types of research. Launched on April 24, 1990, the telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and the European Space Agency.
