The International Union for Surveys and Mapping (IUSM) met in Cologne, Germany, May 3–4, 1993, in conjunction with the 16th conference of the International Cartographic Association. The IUSM comprises international associations involved in surveying, mapping, and related disciplines. Its purpose is to facilitate interassociation cooperation to avoid duplication of effort and provide an interdisciplinary basis for research and projects. Members include the International Federation of Surveyors, the International Association of Geodesy, the International Cartographic Association, the International Hydrographic Association, the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and the Spatially Oriented Referencing Systems Association.
