Abstract

For the first time in recent years, the future is looking bright for Landsat, the U.S. program to provide high spatial resolution measurements of the Earth's surface.

Earlier this month, the Clinton administration said it plans to continue the Landsat program and extend its 20-year data set. Provided that both houses of Congress are willing, the next generation of the satellite program Landsat 7 will be funded and launched in December 1998.
