Seismic reflection profiling to expand knowledge of U.K. shelf

Authors

Abstract

In 1993, two experiments in waters outside the United Kingdom used seismic reflection profiling to investigate the U.K.'s deep structure and adjacent areas of continental shelf.

The experiments were conducted by the British Institutions Reflection Profiling Syndicate (BIRPS), which was established in 1981. These experiments, covering portions of Denmark, Germany, and Ireland, reflect BIRPS' recently broadened mission—to conduct experiments over oceanic crust and overseas that contribute to an understanding of U.K. geology and problems related to deep crustal reflectivity.
