The Office of Technology Assessment has given the green light to study the health and future prospects of the U.S. space launch vehicle industry, as requested by the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. Although in the past, the industry was the bedrock of U.S. high technology strategy, “its future is now very unclear,” according to the committee. Faced with political and economic realignments, the U.S. industry now holds only about 30% of the share of the market, which it once monopolized.
