A U.S. National Space Academy will likely remain a creature of the future—a cornerstone only of societies like that depicted in Star Trek's Next Generation.
That was the word from the House sub-committee on space last week, which stymied a bill to establish a National Space Academy as a NASA initiative. The bill probably won't be revived again this year, according to its sponsor, Rep. James Traficant (D-Ohio).
