Abstract

Neil D. Opdyke of the University of Florida has been selected as the 1996 John Adam Fleming medalist for his original research and technical leadership in paleomagnetism and paleoclimatology. Keith Runcorn, in his nomination, cited Opdyke as “…one of the first young geologists to appreciate the possibilities of the new subject of paleomagnetism—at that time viewed with much scepticism by most geoscientists. … he did research which ranks him as one of the pioneers of this now fundamental discipline.”
