Three presentations in the Tectonophysics Section were named Outstanding were Student Papers at AGU's Spring Meeting in Baltimore, Md. Paul D. Asimow, who presented “The Effect of Pressure-Induced Solid-Solid Phase Transitions on Decompression Melting in the Mantle,” is a graduate student in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at Caltech. He obtained an A.B. in geological sciences from Harvard University in 1991 and an M.S. in geology from Caltech in 1993. His research interests include igneous petrology and geodynamics: he is currently working on experimental measurements of basaltic melt migration in peridotite and self-consistent thermodynamic models of melt production, chemistry, and transport in two-phase convection.
