Engineering Risk Analysis of Water Pollution: Probabilities and Fuzzy Sets

Authors

Abstract

Issues related to sustainability place enormous demands on science. A number of questions raised by the sustainability perspective reveal that there are major deficiencies in what is known about the behavior of a range of natural and human systems. Because many of these deficiencies cannot be eliminated immediately, uncertainty and risk—a measure of the probability and severity of adverse effects—also must be considered in relation to sustainability.
