Abstract

Anyone who has taught in Earth systems science is aware of the difficulties in making the subject accessible and understandable while at the same time not losing the “big picture.” It is easy to get lost while traipsing through the myriad contributing sciences. The field is evolving rapidly given the exigencies of current global concerns. Resources such as the book under review, directed as they are toward the nonspecialist college audience, have the chance to influence how the field will actually be taught and practiced.
