Landsat 7 returns first images

Landsat 7, launched on April 15, is the latest in a series of U.S. satellites first launched in 1972, and promises to extend the longest continual remote sensing record of the Earth's continental surfaces and near coastal regions available for civilian usage.

While Landsat 7 is not yet in its final orbital position or collecting data for a global archive, several early images have been taken, including the image pictured here of a section of the Tennessee Valley in the southeastern United States.
